Dr. Babak S. Jahromi
Dr. Babak Jahromi completed medical training and neurosurgical residency at the University of Toronto. During residency he studied cellular and molecular changes underlying cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage, leading to a PhD from the University of Chicago. He subsequently completed fellowships in neuroendovascular surgery (at the Universities of Miami and Buffalo) and was then recruited to establish the endovascular program at the University of Rochester, where he served as the Surgical Director of the URMC Comprehensive Stroke Center. He joined the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 2015 as Chief of Cerebrovascular/Neurointerventional Surgery (a joint division of the Departments of Neurological Surgery and Radiology) and serves as Surgical Director of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Center.
His clinical interests include intra-arterial treatment of stroke, surgical and endovascular treatment of extra/intracranial occlusive disease, aneurysms, AVM’s, trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm. His research interests include outcomes following stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage, use of advanced imaging to guide treatment of acute stroke, and imaging/intervention in carotid disease, with over 160 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters to date
