Dr. Jean Houston


Dr. Jean Houston, scholar, philosopher and researcher in Human Capacities, is one of the foremost visionary thinkers and doers of our time. She is long regarded as one of the principal founders of the Human Potential Movement.

Thirty-six years ago, along with her husband Dr. Robert Masters, Dr. Houston founded The Foundation for Mind Research. She is also the founder and principal teacher of the Mystery School, a program of cross-cultural, mythic and spiritual studies, dedicated to teaching history, philosophy, the New Physics, psychology, anthropology, myth and the many dimensions of human potential. The Mystery School lasted for some 30 years on both the east and the west coasts, for which she created over 250,00 pages of teaching material.

A prolific writer and author of over 30 published books including " A Passion for the Possible", "The Possible Human", "Public Like a Frog", "A Mythic Life: Learning to Live Our Greater Story", and "The Passion of Isis and Osiris. Her book "Jump Time" explores a new Global Paradigm and speaks boldly of a regenesis of human society. The questions raised in this book and the exciting suggestion of possibilities are producing new pioneers Social Artists working on the frontiers of this new global society. As well as the Mystery School, Dr. Houston offers intensives in Social Artistry.

Dr. Jean Houston's newer book, WIZARD OF US: Transformational Lessons from Oz Atria Books/Beyond Words, explores the powerful, unique skills and qualities embodied by the beloved characters in this classic story. Her latest book co-written with physicist Ervin Laszlo and physician Larry Dossey, is What is consciousness which reflects Dr Houston’s deep interest and exploration of the relationship of quantum physics to human possibilities.

A powerful and dynamic speaker, she holds conferences and seminars with social leaders, educational institutions and business organizations worldwide. Jean Houston has worked intensively in over 40 cultures helping to enhance and deepen their own uniqueness while they become part of the global community. She has worked in some109 countries and is the recipient of many awards. She works at all levels of leadership and has worked for years with the United Nations as a Senior Advisor to the UNDP training leaders in developing countries this new field of Social Artistry human development in the light of social complexity.She teaches many seminars and salons in human development.

Dr. Houston is Chancellor of Meridian University, and offers masters and doctoral programs in transformational leadership and social change. She is also the Chairman of the United Palace of Spiritual Arts in New York City which also contains one of the biggest and most technically advanced theaters in the United States. There she orchestrates conferences on creating a world that works for all.
