Hank Queen


Hank Queen operates and owns Sunburst Retreat, located just outside of Bend, Oregon. This retreat offers small groups a variety of learning and recreational activities, including executive leadership development, golf instruction, ballroom dancing instruction, quilting, yoga, meditation, and continuing education in massage.


Hank also works as a consultant to businesses to improve their financial performance, and employee job satisfaction. These improvements are founded on a proven process for effective engagement of employees.


Prior to retiring from Boeing Commercial Airplanes BCA in Seattle, Washington in 2005, Hank worked 30 years in a variety of technical and executive leadership assignments. These positions included engineering, customer support, and chief engineer of the 767 and 767-400ER programs. Later he was the responsible for all engineering at BCA, and then led the creation and integration of a new organization of more than 40,000 people from the engineering, manufacturing and quality functions. The goal was full integration of the design and build process, and his team achieved breakthrough improvements in productivity and morale.


An important part of Hanks assignment was also management and development of more than 200 executives, with responsibility for the identification, development and selection processes for key executives. In addition, Hank was instrumental in the creation of a diversity council within BCA, chartered to educate people on the power of a diverse workforce, and to foster the career growth of women and minorities. In this role, he was a coach and mentor to more than 30 individuals at all levels within the company, and outside of Boeing. Hank believes that a company can never be stronger than its employees, and that outstanding business performance is founded on exceptional leaders supporting the needs of all employees.


Hank received a number awards and recognitions during his career at Boeing, including being named a Fellow in the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Partnership for Safety award from the Federal Aviation Administration, Outstanding Aerospace Engineer award from Purdue University, and Global Diversity Change Agent award.


Since retiring from Boeing, Hank has continued to live his life according to his purpose and expand his knowledge and interests. He is now a licensed massage therapist, a certified personal fitness trainer, certified sports nutrition advisor, and a licensed HeartMath 1:1 provider.


Hank and Kareen have been married since 2000, and between them have three children. They are both passionate about people, golf, competitive ballroom dancing, life, and giving back to others whenever possible.
