Lauren Bloom
Lauren Bloom is an ordained interfaith minister, attorney and award-winning author who brings a practical, compassionate and humorous approach to the serious business of personal and professional integrity.
Lauren holds a B.A. in English from Yale College and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She also holds an advanced degree in Labor Law with distinction from Georgetown Law Center. Most recently, Lauren graduated from The New Seminary and was ordained as an associate minister of The Interfaith Temple in New York City.
Lauren began her legal career at the U.S. Justice Department, soon moving into private practice and specializing in standard-setting, enforcement and governance for nonprofit associations. She then spent more than fourteen years as General Counsel of the American Academy of Actuaries, where her practice focused on teaching professionals how to incorporate high ethical standards and principles of good governance into their work. Lauren played a pivotal role in the development and enforcement of the U.S. actuarial professions code of conduct and standards of qualification and practice. She also consulted with the International Actuarial Association on its project to develop the first international standards of practice for actuaries.
An internationally-recognized expert on professional ethics and governance, Lauren has appeared as a keynote speaker and on panels across North America and in Europe, and continues to publish and speak with actuarial groups nationwide. She is also a contributing columnist for TheStreet.com.
Lauren lives in Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C. She serves as a governance expert on the Boards of Directors of the Institute of Management Consultants USA and the IMC USA Foundation. For fun, Lauren also serves on the Board of a local community theatre troupe and appears regularly in films and professional and community theatre productions around the greater Washington, D.C. area.
