Virgil Jones
Virgil Jones is the Athletics Director/Assistant Principal at Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota, Jones attended Greenfield High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as part of the Chapter 220 school desegregation mandate for Milwaukee Area Schools. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, a Masters degree in Leadership in Student Affairs from the University of St. Thomas, and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from MSU-Mankato.
In high school, Jones participated in football, wrestling and track and field. He played football for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse EAGLES where he was a member of three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship teams, as well as a member of the 1992 NCAA Division III National Championship team. In 2011, Jones was awarded the Multicultural Alumni Award from UW Lacrosse. That honor recognizes multicultural alumni for outstanding contributions to their profession and society.
Jones’ professional experience includes working for ACT as the Minnesota/Wisconsin consultant. He is also a past Chair of the Minnesota ACT Council. Mr. Jones worked at the University of St. Thomas Office of the Dean of Students and at Gustavus Adolphus College as Director of Multicultural Programs, Director of Diversity, and Assistant Dean of Students.Mr. Jones joined ISD 196 at Rosemount High School in 2013 as Dean of Students and Ninth Grade Coordinator. His responsibilities included attendance, discipline, leadership for ninth grade students and programs, coordinating the ninth grade transition, and leading the Student Assistance and Crisis Response Teams.
